Wooden canopy — instructions for building and installing with your own hands (85 photo ideas)

Probably everyone who has their own house has a canopy. Canopies come in different types, and the forms depend only on the imagination of the owner. The production of a canopy can be ordered from professional builders, or you can make a canopy with your own hands.

Types of canopies are different and divide them either by location, or by shape or by the materials from which they are made.

The shape of the canopy depends on the builder's imagination and needs. Straight, bent or inclined — you can choose any, the main thing is that it is beautiful and functional.

Let's look at the situation with awnings by example. We are the owners of a house near the city and decided to equip the territory. The canopy can be built from various materials, whether brick, wood, polycarbonate or mixed.

We decided to make a wooden canopy for a suburban house. You can build from any tree, but pine will do the best job. The timber from it is not expensive, but it will last much longer than other breeds.

So we bought materials and thought about the shape of the canopy. There are a lot of photos of a wooden canopy on the Internet, you can choose several types and compose your own according to an individual plan. We draw a plan on paper and proceed to its implementation.

To begin with, we need to prepare wells for the installation of pillars. The installation depth should not be less than 500 mm, but it is not necessary to dig deeper, since the height of the building will decrease. Before installing the pillars, they will need to be treated from the effects of moisture and other negative factors.

You can strengthen the pillars with cement mortar or crushed stone, but it is better to combine them. The distance between the pillars is about a meter. When installing, you need to check the diagonals and levels so that our design does not bend or be curved. When the pillars are installed, you need to give the mixture time to consolidate.

It is best to perform these works in the summer so that there is no excessive moisture in the soil. Build away from the septic tank so that there are no unpleasant odors and watch for the absence of underground utilities.

If we build an attached canopy from wood to the house, then the poles should be placed only on three sides. The rafters from the pillars will go to the wall of the house, where they will be attached. If there are already special brick inserts in the wall of the house, then we are very lucky and we will be able to put rafters on them.

If there are no inserts, then we fasten the rafters to the wall of the house with metal corners, preferably from all four sides for strength. Do not forget to make a slight slope so that during the rain the water rolls down from the canopy, and does not remain on its roof.

After completing the roof sheathing, we choose the material for the coating. The most budget is polycarbonate, but it can be covered with tiles and slate. The advantage of polycarbonate is its lightness and budget price. It is attached to the crate with screws with sweat.

Do not forget that the edges should go out less than 15 centimeters from our pillars. So our canopy in the draft version is ready. Now let's start finishing.

Finishing

By finishing, we understand the floor and the functional load of the canopy. You can do nothing with the floor and leave the earthen version. If you live there only in the summer, then you really don't really need it.

But what if the canopy is used all year round? To do this, we make a small threshold around the perimeter of the canopy, except for the wall of the house. It does not need to be made too small or too large, the optimal height is 7-10 cm. This is so that water, snow or earth does not get there.

The easiest and fastest is a concrete floor. Crushed stone is filled in and filled with sand concrete, and this can be finished. In the future, you can put a tile on top of such a floor. Some make the floor from edged boards, but it must be treated with various mixtures so that it will last longer.

If you are under a canopy carried out any work associated with fire, it is better to concrete won't find anything. Paving is also considered, but it is also necessary to do the right pillow. Otherwise, in the spring of possible swelling or failures.

The functional load of the canopy can be different. Here you can arrange a gazebo, an open veranda, a summer kitchen, a carpentry room or just store tools and work clothes. But for tools and work clothes, it is better to use a shed to get aesthetic pleasure. But it is also possible to make a carport.

Car parking

The shape of the canopy should be appropriate. When building with such functionality, a car should drive into one of the sides and therefore the width between the pillars should be appropriate. It is better to make the floor either concrete or paving slabs, although you can simply asphalt it. Again, everything depends only on your imagination and financial resources.

Under such a canopy, the car will get dirty less from precipitation and you will always be able to walk home dry, but this is if it is attached to the house.

Many make a canopy near the gate to increase the useful area of the plot. There are also many nuances here, and before construction it is better to talk with neighbors so that there are no conflicts in the future.

Entrance to the house

Usually the canopy over the porch is made solely for comfort purposes. It can also be built of wood and pillars, or it can be metal and simply attached to the wall of the house.

In some cases, a budget option is a polycarbonate sheet attached by several bars to the wall. But such a canopy is not durable and can be broken in strong gusts of wind.

Usually a canopy is built together with steps and often turns into a porch of a house.

Results

A canopy is a necessary and irreplaceable thing in a personal home. Here it is possible to carry out work that is not recommended to do inside the house. In addition to helping with the household, it has an aesthetic function and will delight not only your eyes, but also the envious glances of neighbors and guests.

You can build such a canopy so that it works for you all year round. This will require a little skill in construction. Here you can make either opening shutters or shields, which, depending on the time of year, you can remove or put in a canopy.

What else can wooden canopies look like? The answer is simple. You can do the carving. The carving patterns also depend on your imagination and skill. No wonder all the Russian huts made a rugged porch. The drawing here can be functional or just add a twist to your estate.

Some craftsmen use various driftwood as building materials, which serve as pillars. Here we are faced with the complexity of the time and finances of processing such material, but the work will exceed all your expectations.

Some canopies are so extraordinary that in some countries they become community centers and are specially built by the government.

On a personal plot of land, you can decorate with fruit trees present. The main thing is not to destroy the tree. The canopy can be decorated with various climbing plants such as vines.

Do not forget about bringing electricity to the shed. In accordance with the functional load, there should be lighting and several outlets. Fire safety is above all, so it is advisable to protect the sockets from the effects of the weather and make a separate box with plugs for the canopy.

Do not forget, the main thing is to properly measure your desires and capabilities. As they say: measure seven times — cut once.
