Tillers for cottages — which one to choose? Overview of popular models, photos, characteristics, recommendations for choosing!
With the arrival of spring, summer residents dealing with land begin to acquire agricultural machinery. Even a small area is problematic to process qualitatively by hand, not to mention large land plots. In such conditions, a real find becomes a tillerblock.
Despite the rather high cost, it performs many functions, thanks to which the purchase pays off in just a couple of years.
Often unscrupulous sellers give out motorcycle cultivators for lightweight tillers. Meanwhile, these two tools have enormous differences.
A motor cultivator is a mechanized unit designed to prepare the topsoil before sowing. With its help, weeds are removed, fertilizers and nutrients are mixed with the soil.
More versatile is the tillerblock. This is a mini tractor capable of producing deep tillage.
Structurally, they are also different. The traction force in the motor cultivator is created by a milling cutter mounted on the drive shaft. The tillerblock uses the principle of wheel traction. The latter equipment weighs more and requires significant physical effort.
The features of the technique are demonstrated by photos of tillers, which can be viewed at the end of the article in our gallery.
Motorblock functions
The main area of application of the tillerblock remains land work, among which:
Plowing. It is made by hanging a plow on the device. The depth of the shoveled layer is determined by the engine power. Serious aggregates can cope even with virgin soil. Well-plowed soil is rich in oxygen, necessary for plant growth.
Harrowing. They are carried out with a special toothed nozzle. The process destroys the solid earth crust formed as a result of the drying of the upper ground layer. The circulation of air masses improves.
Hilling. You can't do without a spud in a potato field. And then a tillerblock will come in handy, which will lift the soil with a special nozzle, creating neat furrows.
Planting of garden crops. For this purpose, additional components have been developed – seeders and potato planters. The volume of the tank in which the planting material is placed is comparable to three buckets of potatoes.
But the functionality is not limited to this. You can expand it by installing additional attachments for the motor unit: aeration mechanism, chopper or motor pump.
In winter, the device turns into a compact snowplow. To do this, it is enough to equip it with knives, brushes and snow plows. The power take-off shaft is used to transfer torque from the motor unit drive to the attachments.
Types of tillers
According to the type of engine , there are 3 classes of cars:
Petrol tillers. Among their advantages are high power, ease of operation and productivity. They create less noise than diesel counterparts. Another reason for their popularity is environmental friendliness (the volume of gases released during operation is much less than that of other species).
Diesel tillers. Despite the low cost of fuel, the unit itself will cost more than a gasoline "brother". They are characterized by high cross-country ability, which allows them to be used in large areas.
Tillers with electric motors. These are lightweight models that are convenient for processing limited areas, for example, the ground in greenhouses.
Choosing a tillerblock
The choice of equipment depends on the purposes and conditions of its use. The main characteristic of a tillerblock is considered to be the power determined by the area of the land plot:
- With a territory of up to 15 acres, a device with a capacity of 3.5-4 hp (60 cm width) will cope.
- For allotments up to 30 acres, a tillerblock with characteristics of 4.5-5 hp and a grip of 80 cm is suitable.
- Half a hectare of land will be processed by an aggregate of 6-7 hp with a grip of up to 90cm.
- For an area of 1-4 hectares, a power of 10 hp will be required. Above these values, the land should be treated with a tractor.
Which tillers to choose will tell you the weight of the equipment. For heavy, virgin soil, choose devices with a weight of 100-120 kg. They are ideal for working with mounted components. If the ground is light, then pay attention to tillers weighing up to 70 kg. The clay type of soil lends itself to structures with a weight of up to 100 kg. The larger the dimensions and weight, the more difficult it is to operate the device.
Operation in winter, in conditions of negative temperatures, involves the use of a gasoline engine and an electric starter. This eliminates possible problems with starting the device.
Also, when buying, you should determine how the unit will be used most often. If you plan to actively mow vegetation on lawns or fields, clearing land from weeds, then you can not do without a tillerblock with a rotary mower. It is designed for flat or slightly sloping terrain.
Structurally, the product consists of discs on which special knives are mounted. The more disks a particular model contains, the wider the processing range.
For the transportation of various goods, the equipment is equipped with trailer devices. The trailer for the tillerblock will allow you to quickly dilute fertilizers to the designated places, bring construction materials and crops. There are single-axle and two-axle trailers.
The most important selection criterion is the load capacity:
- For low-power tillers, purchase trailers with dimensions of 1x1 m and a load capacity of up to 300 kg.
- For medium tillers — up to 500 kg.
It is desirable that the body is made of galvanized steel. Recently, plastic models that are poorly adapted to heavy loads have been on sale. A good option would be to complete the trailer with a seat. Many useful tips for automotive equipment can be found on the website of our partners.
Recommended producers
Today, tillers are produced by both domestic and foreign companies. In practice, the former are more affordable, less demanding on fuel quality. But poor-quality assembly and manufacturing of assembly parts are a common cause of breakdowns and failure.
Manufacturers of tillers that occupy leading positions in the market: Salyut or Neva (both Russia), Caiman (France), Greenfield (China), Belarus (Belarus), Hyundai (Korea).
Let's briefly consider the best models in the rating of tillers:
"Belarus 09N-01" — refers to heavy tillers, with a strip width of 70 cm and a digging depth of 20 cm. The four-stroke gasoline engine of 9.4 hp allows you to lift even virgin soil.
Advantages — functionality, the possibility of using large attachments. Cons — problems with the clutch and gear shifting. The initial price is from 80,000 rubles.
"Hyundai T 2000E" is a lightweight unit capable of processing an area of up to 25 acres. Model parameters: band width 55 cm, depth — 25 cm. A distinctive feature is the 2.7 hp electric motor. The estimated price is 20,000 rubles.
Neva MB-23SD-27F is characterized by a power of 5.5 liters / s, three gears (including reverse). Processes the soil to a depth of 20 cm, with a grip of 85 cm. Advantages — low cost and availability of repairs, a developed network of service centers. The average price is 90,000 rubles.
"CAIMAN 330" is a tillerblock equipped with a Japanese Subaru engine (power 9 hp). There are 5 speeds to choose from, 2 of which provide reverse. The processing width reaches 60 cm, depth — 20 cm. The positive sides are a long service life, high—quality assembly. Among the few disadvantages is the high price starting from 190,000 rubles.
Whichever model of the tillerblock you choose, pay close attention to the warranty and the availability of service centers for this equipment in your city.
