The floor in a wooden house — instructions for beginners, recommendations on the choice of material (120 design photos)

In an area rich in forests, wood has historically been the main material for the construction of a dwelling. Now, it would seem, the construction industry has stepped far ahead — however, wooden houses still continue to be in high demand. And this is no coincidence, because they have a number of important advantages, including a pleasant appearance, smell, a good indoor climate. In addition, wood has excellent thermal insulation properties.

However, the weak point of cottages made of timber or logs is often a poorly insulated roof, windows or floor. That is why they need to be given special attention during construction. If you want your wooden house to have a warm floor, you should approach its arrangement wisely.

The design of any floor is almost always a kind of puff pastry. In addition to the beautiful top coating that works on the interior of the room, there are also insulation layers hidden from the eyes, a load-sensing base, and so on. The thickness and structure of these components depends on many factors.

In a wooden building, the floor structure has the following distinctive features: it must be well insulated, have effective steam and waterproofing.

And the choice of the base in this case is limited to only two options — wood or concrete. To determine which floor in a wooden house is better, let's take a closer look at these two options.

Wooden floor construction

In this case, rammed soil, brick pillars or an interstory reinforced concrete floor can act as a base, if we are talking about the construction of the floor of the upper floors. This is followed by a waterproofing layer, for which roofing material or roofing is usually used.

Wooden logs are installed on top, between which insulation is laid. Then follows a layer of vapor barrier film. And already the floor boards are laid on it — often in several layers.

Concrete floor construction

Here, soil is used as the base. A thermal insulation layer is poured on top, which is sand or fine gravel. It is recommended to lay a vapor barrier film on the bottom and top of this layer. And only then a concrete mixture is poured over the entire structure.

After its hardening, which takes about three weeks, the turn of the cement-sand screed layer comes. Then the front decorative coating is installed on it — tile, parquet, laminate, linoleum ... Any option from a wide range of floor materials that you will like.

Advantages and disadvantages of two types of construction

The quality of the floor is determined by such aspects as its service life, resistance to damage, smoothness of the surface. According to these parameters, concrete, of course, wins over wood. It seems more reliable and durable, is not afraid of high humidity or fungus, it is quite difficult to deform it.

In defense of the tree, I would like to note that with careful observance of operating conditions, it can last as long as concrete… Only now it is not so easy to ensure the fulfillment of all these conditions. As for the smoothness of the front surface of the floor, then concrete is undoubtedly far ahead.

Complexity factors, prices and installation time also play a huge role. How expensive will all the necessary work cost, how long will it last, and will an amateur be able to do everything well and beautifully on his own?

It is believed that it is more difficult and longer to work with a tree, and the cost will be considerable. However, do not forget that concrete, on the other hand, requires a more powerful foundation, since it has a significant weight.

And yet, despite all this, people very often prefer wood. Why? The answer is extremely simple — because of the magnificent aesthetic properties of this material and the feeling of warmth that it gives.

Artistic possibilities of wood: color and texture

This natural natural material, unlike its even the best imitations, has a very attractive unique texture. Such a floor acquires a particularly spectacular sound when treated with special lacquers. It can become glossy, matte, acquire an interesting vintage look.

And even the color of the wooden floor in the house can be adjusted with the help of varnishes with a coloring pigment. However, it is worth noting that even without adjustment, the natural shades of wood are very attractive.

Someone may note that concrete in combination with decorative coatings also has the ability to include many shades and textures in the interior of the room, including those imitating wood. That the artistic possibilities of such a combination are even wider.

However, there are two things to remember. Firstly, imitation almost always loses to the original. And, secondly, theoretically, all the same decorative coatings can also be installed on a wooden substrate. But why, if it itself has excellent aesthetic characteristics?

Using wooden boards as a tool of professional designers

Another feature of the coating of wooden boards, which is often used by designers, is its graphicity. It forms a certain rhythm and direction, which, with the right approach, can transform the interior, make it more interesting and dynamic.

There are several basic techniques: firstly, the boards are often laid in the direction of movement, giving the space greater clarity and consistency. Secondly, the room seems brighter and more spacious if the boards are perpendicular to the plane of the windows.

And finally, the visual perception of the proportions of the room can be easily changed, for example, by emphasizing its oblong outlines with the direction of the wooden covering. Or vice versa, creating the illusion of a wide hall by placing boards parallel to its narrower side. All these techniques can be found on the floor photos of wooden houses created by professional designers.

Which type of floor you will consider the best option as a result depends on your goals, preferences, and the budget you have at your disposal. However, all existing varieties can be an excellent effective solution if there is a clear understanding of their advantages, disadvantages and opportunities.
