People have long considered the stork to be a bird – appearing near housing for good. Storks live near human habitation, but very few cases are known when they have been tamed. To attract this bird, in places where it is found, you can build a nest near the house, or even on its roof. But do not forget that the stork's nest on the roof of the house is not only beautiful, and the birds are nearby, but also the products of the bird's vital activity, the hubbub of hatched chicks.

If you are lucky, and storks will settle with you, you will sometimes have to adjust to the regime of this rare bird, so as not to cause her anxiety.

If it is decided that the stork can live next to your dwelling, then there are several signs. And if the signs are to your liking, you can learn how to build a bird's nest, perhaps she will agree to settle very close.

Rumor has it that they bring peace and financial stability to the family. A stork's nest on the roof means that there will never be a fire in the house. If the stork circles over the dwelling for several days or weeks, the couple will soon have a child. If this bird has landed on the roof or has taken a position on the chimney where the wedding is taking place now, a baby will appear in the first year.

There are also bad omens: if a stork has built a nest on the roof, and then suddenly left it, then trouble will happen to the house.

It is not necessary to attach importance to signs, it is just convenient for a bird to sit where it is high, and it will settle where it is found.

Therefore, if you want storks to build a nest on your roof, settle yourself where they live, and to make it easier for the bird of happiness – build a nest for her yourself.

Birds are very busy creatures, they have a year scheduled for mating games, laying eggs, hatching chicks, raising them, and then – on vacation, in warm places until a new clutch. The stork will be glad to have a ready-made house.

Preparation for nest construction

How stork nests look in nature, and what a person can do – see photos of stork nests, if inspired, you can get to work.

In order for storks to live freely in the nest, it is necessary that they have a place to feed – there should be farms, meadows, swamps nearby. The probability of settling your nest becomes higher if a lot of birds already live in this area, this means that a stork will also take root here.

What to consider when choosing a nest site:

  • it is desirable to build a stork nest 300 meters from the neighboring nest of these birds, not closer, otherwise they will divide the territory and quarrel;
  • the nest should be ready in early March so that the birds have time to settle in: at the end of April – early May, the laying has already been done, storks are hatching eggs; or build in autumn – by next spring;
  • it should be convenient for birds to fly up – it is impossible that there are electric wires over the nesting place, roofs of buildings, poles, tall trees are suitable;
  • the height of the place should be at least 4 meters;
  • the support of the nest should be strong – two adult storks with chicks and a nest weigh about 40 kg, these birds return to their nests for more than one year, each time the nest will be heavier.

Nest Construction

It is difficult to build a nest on a pole on your own, but it is absolutely real on the roof of any building.

For the base of the nest, you can take a bicycle tire or a rim from a cart wheel, you can make a base from boards, thick branches or metal rods. To prevent the structure from crumbling, it must be reinforced on the sides with pegs or long nails.

In order for the stork to like the nest, it is necessary to make it as if he built it himself. To do this, the bottom should be lined with dried branches with a layer of about 35 cm. It is not necessary to make a high pillow, otherwise the chicks will be high to the sides and hot.

The middle should be filled with straw and manure – in nature storks feed on frogs, lizards, mice, they can even swallow a rabbit or a mole, sometimes storks eat carrion, the smell of the animal attracts them.

To strengthen the base, you need a strong brushwood, you can not fasten it with a wire – it does not break, birds can get tangled in it with their paws during takeoff, or just being in the nest.

A little human trick: the nest should be sprayed with lime – abundantly around the edges, it imitates bird droppings. To attract a stork, his house should look lived-in, old.

The order of work

First, a wooden overlay is made on the roof. Take two bars about one and a half meters each. Lay them crosswise so that the two ends of the bars are shorter than the other two – for the stability of the structure. Lay the same construction on them.

A total of 4 beams are needed. The base is ready: a quadrangular base has turned out. It is advisable to nail it to the roof so that it is stationary. A wheel is placed on the finished base – the nests of birds are always round in shape.

Next, the weaving of the nest begins. It is better to take the material in the forest, with a natural smell of nature. It will take three or four armfuls of brushwood: it can be willow branches, straw, reeds, grape vines – flexible material is needed. Branches can be bought at the garden market or in the store.

Bend all branches with a ring and connect the rings. To connect, take a string made of natural threads. It is difficult to bend fresh branches, they will need to be dried for some time: for this, cut branches should be left outside, in the fresh air – they will dry naturally. Do not leave it in the rain, bring it into the room.

You will need straw for the middle of the nest. On top of it is a layer of twigs. Manure should be placed between branches. Spray the nest outside with lime solution to simulate litter. You can not use white paint – only natural material.

How to make stork has attracted new nest

It is necessary to put food for the bird in the nest. Stork is not easy to attract. First of all, he needs to know that there is food here.

From time to time, it is necessary to check the nest: whether twigs have begun to deteriorate and rot there, whether they have begun to bloom – fresh sprouts may begin to break through on the branches, this is unacceptable for nesting.

It may take more than one year before storks settle in your nest. But if this is your permanent home, and there is time to maintain the nest – one day the owner of the house will certainly wait for his stork.

A nest on the roof is beautiful, and the birds are alive, if a person is ready to share his territory with a bird, is not afraid of noise, hubbub and some inevitable dirt, then he can wait for a stork, watch, be surprised and bring to life all the good signs associated with this beautiful bird.
