Sprinklers — an overview of modern irrigation devices. 125 photos of the best garden and vegetable garden ideas
In order for the annual harvest to please with its abundance, it is necessary to take care of your garden and beds all year round. This cannot be achieved without regular moistening of the soil and the creation of a normal microclimate in it that promotes the development of all plants. The natural supply of moisture is provided by precipitation. But they may not always be enough, and in some periods they are simply not enough.
In this case, artificial watering is required using a variety of sprinklers and sprayers. But not all summer residents can correctly determine which sprinkler to choose. Our article is designed to help with this.
The purpose of using garden sprinklers is to provide the necessary irrigation, which is sufficient to moisten the soil. This creates conditions for the best harvest.
In the most general form, the design includes a water supply hose, which is attached to the nozzle. Spraying takes place through it. But now there are many types of devices that give the best result, depending on the characteristics of the site and the requirements for the irrigation regime.
For example, if the lawn is heterogeneous in relief and types of plantings, then it should be divided into several zones. A separate type of sprinkler is installed in each of them.
Sprinklers for irrigation are designed to create conditions under which the flow of water into the soil becomes uniform over the entire area of the site. In this case, it is possible to minimize territories that are not irrigated or receive excessive amounts of moisture.
Structures can be extendable and non–movable, have various ways of fastening - on pegs, tripods or directly on the ground. Each type has its own characteristics, scope, advantages and disadvantages.
Types of irrigation devices
Before you purchase an irrigation system for your garden or vegetable garden, you need to determine which type will suit you.
Watering guns
This is the simplest design that can be used in irrigation. It is enough to connect the hose to a water pipe or faucet and press the spray lever. Such devices may have:
- the tip that sets the jet in the "hard-soft" range;
- multifunctional sprayer that establishes the nature of spraying.
For convenience, a lock is provided in the design, which allows you to set the spray mode. Therefore, you can not constantly press the lever. There is also a liquid regulator. The case is made of plastic, which protects the hand from the cold. Improvised means are used for cleaning.
Static-type constructions
This equipment can be used for irrigation of both lawns and shrubs with trees. A special feature is to ensure a uniform distribution of moisture in the absence of rotation of the nozzles. Most often they are an integral part of automatic systems.
Static sprinklers can go deep into the ground or have a portable design. The deepened modifications have a cylindrical body from which the internal block is extended. The watering range is not too large – up to 6 m.
The application is limited to an area of up to 10 m2, but in the case of more extensive areas, the combined use of several devices of this type with a connection by a common conduit is allowed.
The presence of a limiter allows you to effectively set the spray zone. Among the well-known brands, Karcher, Gardena, Hunter, Rain Bird are popular and in demand.
Circular models
This design will be useful when watering lawns and areas with a rounded shape. Unregulated circular sprinklers consist of heads statically located on stands equipped with nozzles. The movement of water acquires a cone-shaped shape, and the jet can consist of both small drizzling droplets and larger droplets.
Sprinklers can be placed on pegs or stands. The first method of fastening is more reliable and gives a stable support, however, it is used in conditions of soft soil.
There are also controlled circular type systems. The distribution sector here can adapt to the specific features of the site and vary within 0-360 degrees. The type of jet is also changing.
For more efficient irrigation, you need to put several such elements on the lawn. And to connect them into a cycle, you can use a regular hose.
Programmable circular models give even greater coverage of the area – up to 380 m2. An important advantage of this option is the ability to adapt the spraying to a specific terrain and the specifics of the site by changing the flow range. If you have correctly divided your allotment into zones, then each of them has its own range indicator.
Rotary systems
In the design, a fixed fixed base with a rotating block located on top is distinguished. The upper part performs axial rotation and resembles propeller blades. Water under pressure enters them and is then sprayed at an angle.
The rotation of the atomizer screw itself also depends on the feed pressure. The number of blades varies depending on the brand of the product – 2-4 pieces.
In adjustable rotary sprinklers, it is possible to control the type of jet and the size of the spraying sector. This type of device can cover an area of up to 30 m2. There are also unregulated technologies.
The use of a consistent watering principle allows you to gradually increase the radius, as a result of which the covered area increases. Smooth and step-by-step adjustment of the spray angle ensures greater performance of the entire device.
Modern and more expensive devices are equipped with special rotary-type heads or drums that set the size of the drops and the irrigation zone. At the same time, they can function at a pressure of 1 atm.
The disadvantage of rotary devices is their susceptibility to contamination by impurities. In this case, it will not be possible to repair them. Therefore, you need to choose models that have special filters included, or put filter blocks on the entire water supply system. We recommend paying attention to the Hunter and Rain Bird brands.
Retractable sprinkler
Such devices are mounted in the ground, but not exactly on its surface, but are slightly drowned. When the water is automatically turned on, the tip slides up and provides splashing. After turning off the water, it moves back.
The water supply range is small – up to 4-5 m, but the quality of humidification is ensured by the frequency of placement. It is used for irrigation of lawns and lawns.
Models of impulse action
Their work resembles the principle of operation of rotary structures. However, irrigation does not occur continuously for a given time, but after certain periods of time. Watering is carried out in reverse order – from distant sites to near ones. The entire zone is covered at each radius. The jet can be fed to a distance of up to 20 m.
At the same time, there are pulse sprinklers in which you can adjust the nature of the rotation of the head and the angle of the nozzle placement.
The function of crushing the water flow and the possibility of feeding it vertically provide higher productivity. Gardena and Karcher brands are in demand in this group of products.
Oscillating systems
Their use is suitable for processing rectangular areas with approximate dimensions of 30x17 m. There are several models. In a simple design, a tube made of metal or plastic is mounted on a stand.
There is an impeller in the tube, which begins to act together with the gear when the liquid is supplied. As a result, a tube with holes standing clearly in a row begins to rotate. The resulting thin trickles and drops are distributed over the lawn.
Some models are equipped with brass nozzles with notches. They set the rotational motion of the water flow with the formation of its fine-dispersed fraction.
The oscillating sprinkler can also have a plastic tube, the nozzles of which are multidirectional. They have nozzles made of a more plastic material. As a result, the flow direction of the jet is effectively regulated.
The range of the jet supply is adjustable for almost all models, but the width can be set only in expensive equipment. The angle for swinging is fixed within 0-180 degrees. By limiting the flow of water to the holes located along the edge, you can change the width of the irrigation belt. At the same time, the direction of spraying also changes.
How to choose the right one
There are many brands and modifications of irrigation devices on the market. The photo of the sprinklers shows only some of them. How to choose the right design for irrigation of the site?
First, you should study the shape of your allotment. If it is close to rectangular, then you will need an oscillating device. It is perfect for lawns of a small area.
A large front garden should be watered with pulse or rotary models. For lawns of complex geometric shape, the use of varieties with the option of sector irrigation will be optimal.
For example, for a triangular lawn, you can put three such devices with a spray angle of 5-360 degrees. And if necessary, a circular sprinkler is mounted in the center.
Secondly, it is important to take into account the working pressure. Most models work within 2-4 atm., maximum – 6 atm. Depending on the pressure required by the technical passport, it is necessary to select the system.
Preferred are the brands of the product that allow you to adjust the force of the jet and have special tips with a liquid ejection angle regulator.
If the kit includes a set of injectors, then this is also a reason to choose the device. The option that allows the installation of a sprinkler on a tripod is also effective – it is convenient when watering tall shrubs.
Devices from Gardena, Karcher, Rain Bird and Hunter are popular among manufacturers. However, be guided by the purpose and technical parameters of the purchased system.
The sprinkler is a very useful device in the gardener's arsenal. The right choice of model, the right installation will ensure high-quality soil moistening and the creation of optimal conditions for plant growth in the garden.
