Rowan — planting and tree care. Overview of the beneficial properties of fruits for the human body (100 photos)
Rowan is of great importance for the residents of Russia. Since ancient times, this tree attracts with its useful properties. Our ancestors considered it a symbol of unquenchable love, loyalty and purity. Many amateur gardeners plant rowan on their garden plot. Birds are attracted by delicious and slightly tart berries.
Soon the birds often begin to visit the site, while destroying garden pests, which contributes to the preservation of berries, vegetables and fruits. Planting and growing mountain ash does not cause any difficulties, which is attractive for gardeners.
Any kind of mountain ash is considered a rather unpretentious tree. It grows well even in shaded areas. But in order for the useful properties of mountain ash to manifest themselves in full, it is necessary to plant it on a site well illuminated by the sun. In these conditions, the crown of the tree will be beautiful and spreading, and the berries will be juicy and saturated.
The tree is usually planted in late autumn, after the sap stops moving. The most optimal for planting is considered to be the end of October – the beginning of November.
Light loamy and sandy loam soils are usually chosen for planting. If the soil is heavy, then it is lightened by introducing sand and compost. If the land is poor, then it is necessary to introduce nutritious organic mixtures in large quantities before planting.
The landing pit is being prepared a month or two before landing. It has a diameter of about 60 cm at a depth of half a meter. Two weeks before planting, it must be filled with humus or ripe compost. In the future, 30 g of potassium salt and 100 g of superphosphate fertilizer are added to the resulting mass.
For clay, heavy soils, a deeper planting pit is necessary. A drainage layer consisting of sand and crushed stone is applied to its bottom.
The planting of a rowan tree is carried out in the same way as other garden seedlings. It is necessary to carefully straighten the root system, making sure that the root neck is not covered with earth.
After planting, the young tree is watered, and so that the ground around the plant does not dry out, it is recommended to mulch the trunk circle with dry grass or compost.
Rules of care
Caring for trees is similar to caring for other plants. It is necessary to loosen the ground around the trees in a timely manner and remove weeds. Around the tree, the territory is carefully dug up, which should be done to protect the root system from possible damage. Timely removal of young growth is carried out.
Mountain ash, especially young ones, love water, so they are watered in a timely manner. This ensures better growth of the ovary and shoots.
Fertilizers should be applied in the spring and autumn period. In spring, a compost mixture with a high nitrogen content should be added to the soil, in autumn – phosphorus and potassium. If seedlings are fed in this way, then they develop better.
To improve the skeleton and its fortress, cut off excess branches. Pruning of branches is also necessary for uniform sunlight on the entire seedling. This contributes to the fact that the rowan fruits become larger and richer, providing a unique and original taste.
Cut the mountain ash should be in March. This must be done before the kidneys awaken from sleep. In young trees, the twigs should be slightly shortened, and also excess shoots should be removed. In the rowan trees that bore fruit, thinning is carried out and the twigs are made shorter.
If you take care of the trees according to generally accepted rules, then rowan will bring joy not only in life, but also in the photo.
Pests and diseases
Plants are resistant to various diseases and pests. If the weather conditions are negative:
- high degree of humidity;
- a sharp drop in temperature conditions, then soon it will lead to the appearance of pests.
Leaf plates can be damaged by sawflies, ticks, caterpillars. Flowering rowan can be a favorite for flower eaters, berries — rowan moth, twigs – apple fruit sawflies and bark beetles
To eliminate all garden pests, mountain ash should be treated with special preparations in several doses. Plants are not treated only at the time of formation and ripening of fruits.
Varietal abundance
Currently, there are a large number of varieties of mountain ash. But the following varieties have become the most widespread:

It is resistant to low temperature conditions, so it can be planted throughout the territory of the Russian Federation, excluding only the regions of the Far North. Dark red berries have a large size, reaching up to 15 mm. Alcohol and jam are made from the fruits.

Ruby. The variety was obtained as a result of crossing pear trees of various species. Dark red fruits have a unique taste and originality.
How to harvest
Rowan trees have a high yield. Fruit picking is carried out in early autumn. If the fruits have bitterness, then they should be removed after the first frosts hit. This has a beneficial effect on the taste properties of berries.
Experts recommend picking berries together with the peduncle. Such a method of removing fruits manually will ensure the presentability of the appearance.
If the berries are sweet, then remove them after the harvest has ripened. Fruits are removed from high mountain ash trees with the help of special devices. For example, suchkorezov.
The harvested crop is well preserved in the presence of low temperature conditions from zero to plus 1-2 degrees. The fruits are laid out in 1 layer. In this case, the complete safety of vitamins is ensured. Fruits are usually frozen. But in this case, you can not take the mountain ash out of the refrigerator and defrost it.
If the berries were collected before the onset of frosty weather, then they are dried, pre-sorted from garbage and cleaned of leaves and stems. The fruits should be dried in the oven, or you can put them on a newspaper and dry them with the help of sunlight. Storing berries in dried form usually does not cause trouble. They persist for a long time and do not rot.
