Rabbit house with your own hands: planning, drawings, diagrams, projects and design (110 photos)

Living in a country house is not only the proximity of nature and the absence of annoying neighbors, but also the possibility of running your own farm. Someone has enough cucumbers and tomatoes grown in the garden, while others are thinking about expanding their fields of activity. If you decide to engage in animal husbandry, rabbit breeding will be an excellent solution.

Obviously, the animals need a comfortable home. What to take into account in the design process and how to make a rabbit house, we will try to figure out.

Between the idea of building a rabbit house and its implementation is the most important stage of design. You should study the features of keeping big-eared pets and make the house as comfortable as possible for both the animals and the one who will look after them. Always remember that rabbits are living creatures with their own needs.

Having decided on the breed, plan further livestock. The size of the animals, their gender and age make their own adjustments to the design of the rabbit house. Starting construction, it is better to provide for the possibility of further expansion.

Choose your location carefully. Try to find an area far from the sources of loud noise. Give preference to the shady side and elevations: in summer, the sun will not cause discomfort to animals, and in rainy weather, water will not flow into the rabbit house. In no case should it be adjacent to the compost pit.

Nothing should prevent access to the cells. They themselves should be as spacious and comfortable as possible.

Size Selection

The size of the rabbit house is calculated based on the number, sex and age of its inhabitants.

Adults live in individual cells measuring 100x60 cm . It is important for mature males to have more space, so the parameters can be increased for them.

The mother rabbit needs a cage with dimensions of at least 170x100x60 cm. It's good if her house is in the shade. Install it at a height of 70-80 cm from the ground.

A large pet weighing more than 5 kg needs enough space – at least 130x70x40 cm. The roof can be made inclined by reducing the height of the rear wall by 10-15 cm.

Young animals are kept in groups of up to 20 heads. Groups of 3-5 baby rabbits live in separate structures for up to 3 months, older animals are kept in batches of up to 4 individuals. The area of the cells should be 50x50x35.

Of course, you have the right to change these parameters to suit your needs, but try not to make the cells smaller. For normal life, rabbits, like any living creature, need space.

Choosing the type of construction

Check out the photos of ready-made bunnies and consider how they are arranged.

Given the number of pets, calculate how many cages you will need and how best to install them. In addition to single and two-section, the rabbit hutch can be:

  • Single - tier;
  • Multi - tiered;
  • With an aviary;
  • In the form of an extension to the main room.

Having a clear plan, proceed to the construction of the drawing of the rabbit house. Take into account every detail in it: the size, location of doors, feeders and drinkers, taking into account the needs of each pet.

Materials

Try to choose environmentally friendly materials. They must be durable: rabbits are rodents by nature and otherwise will quickly render the dwelling unusable. Wooden parts of the frame for reliability, do not be too lazy to cover with metal (tin from cans will do).

Also, the tree should not be treated with an antiseptic for rabbits it is quite toxic. Thorough drying of the frame will allow it to last longer.

For the cladding, the best option will be a galvanized mesh chain link with a cell size of 20x20 mm. The flat mesh will go on the bottom. Thanks to it, cleaning is greatly simplified: the consequences of the animals' vital activity will fall through the holes. At the bottom, a receiving hopper can be provided for them.

For this reason, solid wood flooring will not work. Boards are more difficult to clean, they absorb urine, as a result of which the microclimate worsens, and the tree itself begins to rot.

If only a flat mesh acts as a floor, the pet risks earning corns. A small sheet of plywood in the cage will protect the paws. It needs to be removed and cleaned from time to time.

The facade of the house and the door are made of steel mesh. From it (a 50x50 mm cell), a hayloft is made.

The roof should reliably protect each tier of the rabbit house from moisture. A simple wavy slate or roofing material will do. Discard the metal, as it gets very hot in the sun.

Blind walls made of polycarbonate, boards or plywood will protect from drafts. The supporting frame of a rabbit hutch standing on the street is better made of an iron corner of 45x45 mm.

Nuances of construction

Standing in the open air, the rabbit house should be located about a meter above the ground. This makes it easier for the owner to take care of him, and protects pets from snakes and other rodents.

Folding doors are considered the most convenient. The hinges hold them from below, a lock or latch is attached at the top. They are made of wood and mesh; metal will unnecessarily weigh it down.

It is allowed to install cells in several tiers. There should be a layer of slate or other moisture-proof material between them.

Take care of good ventilation throughout the rabbit's dwelling. The bottom of the female's cage should be supplemented with a pallet.

The corner of a pregnant rabbit should have a tight door.

Insulation

Rabbits feel comfortable at a temperature of 10-20 °. Therefore, for the winter, you need to either move the house standing in the fresh air to a warm place, or insulate the existing dwelling.

Cover the door with plywood. Even better, if you glass it – this option will allow animals to receive more sunlight. Add a layer of hay to the wooden flooring. The walls can be insulated with ordinary foam.

An alternative approach is to build a special shed with heating. Be sure to make a foundation, and the room itself can be wooden or brick. The main thing is that there are no drafts anywhere. The doors should also be tightly framed and protect the shed from the cold. On the south side, arrange a plot for walking.

For the cottage, the second option of organizing a rabbit house is more convenient.

Feeders and drinkers

Wood is usually used for their manufacture. Plastic can be toxic, so it's safer to use a classic material.

Arrange the feeders along the long side of the rabbit house. Do not lose with the size, so that there is no crush during feeding. Their height is such that animals cannot steal food.

The dimensions of the feeder in the female's compartment with rabbits are at least 40x4x4 cm. The presence of extendable compartments will be relevant.

Between the sections of the rabbit house, provide gaps through which it is convenient to feed hay and compound feed. Through a manger with an external door, you can offer rough food to the animals.

Attach the drinking bowl to the side wall. A "cheap and angry", but effective option is a bowl and a bottle of water inverted into it. A small hole is made in the lid. Thus, as you drink from the bowl, the drinker will be replenished from the bottle.

It is not difficult to make a rabbit house with your own hands. Look at the photos – they can be real cozy houses. If the animals feel good without experiencing discomfort, they will grow and reproduce faster, which is what any breeder wants.
