Polycarbonate awnings — self-manufacturing and design features (100 photos)

Owners of private houses often began to use polycarbonate for wall decoration, arrangement of roof canopies over the entrance and canopies, creation of greenhouses, greenhouses. Cellular polycarbonate is a modern high-strength material that is easy enough to mount yourself.

There are rules established by experience for handling polycarbonate sheets:

  • it is not necessary to store the material in the light, you should take into account the way they are stored in the warehouse;
  • the material should not crack from twisting;
  • you can remove the protective film only after finishing work with the sheets;
  • it is necessary to quickly carry out work on the installation of flooring;
  • the plates should be placed with the UV-resistant side facing out, which is indicated on the surface of the protective film.

Leaving cellular polycarbonate in the film in the open light, it will adhere tightly to the plate, that is, a photochemical reaction, causing the material to become unusable.

Advantages and nuances of the building

The photo of polycarbonate canopies shows universal street structures that perfectly transmit natural light, having a wide range of colors.

The raw material is light enough, transparent and has a variety of convenient thickness format, which helps to create any kind of construction: from simple to curved parts. In addition, they easily fit harmoniously into any interior and landscape of the infield.

Polycarbonate canopies are divided into the following types:

  • separate, self-standing ones are most often acceptable for swimming pools, gazebos, greenhouses, carports in the parking lot and over outbuildings;
  • the mobile type quickly moves to any selected point of the perimeter: the roof of the barbecue, a compact gazebo;
  • as an extension to a garage, a bathhouse, a veranda, a porch canopy.

These structures can be rectangular, curved, or two-story in shape. They are also divided into open and closed models, for which the walls on the sides are usually covered with glass, grilles, lining, or dense textiles.

The construction includes pillars for vertical support and the roof itself. Wood, metal beams, concrete, brick, stone are used to make the frames.

Canopy made of wood

The simplest in terms of installation and relatively cheap way to create a universal street roof is a polycarbonate visor with a support made of wood.

For this work, professional equipment or special skills are not needed at all, the usual set of tools that almost any owner has will do.

You will need glued and profiled beams, rounded logs, wooden poles. To build a truss system, edged boards will be required.

Note that the design has quite significant disadvantages:

  • it does not retain moisture well;
  • it is susceptible to rotting and fungal diseases;
  • it quickly loses strength, reliability and aesthetic appearance, which leads the product to failure.

To avoid these factors, it is recommended to treat the canopy and visor with a composition resistant to fire, antiseptics and protective layers of oil and varnish.

Metal construction

Prior to how to make a canopy in the yard of metal, it is necessary to take into account the parameter of the structure:

  • The forged base will be the most elegant and attractive, but it will require significant expenses. If money allows, it is better to make an exclusive product to order.
  • The most common and relevant construction is considered to be a canopy made of round or profile pipes. The size of the pipe directly depends on the size of the building.
  • Prefabricated finished model made of aluminum.

The main main advantage of an iron canopy is its durability, but despite this fact, it is easily corrodable.

To avoid such a nuisance, it is recommended to pre-clean the product with a hard brush from possible rust, scale, then treat the entire surface with an abrasive and wipe with a solvent. The next step is to cover with a primer or paint.

Please note that the porch railing or gazebo should be made of wood, as the metal quickly heats up from the sun and cools down from frost!

Stone and brick as a base

All types of polycarbonate roofs with stone, brick and concrete bases look very luxurious, rich, but at the same time they do not lose their lightness, which provides a transparent visor. Such supports are easy to maintain, resistant to fires, perfectly cope with natural precipitation and resistant to mechanical damage.

However, their installation will require much more time, effort and financial costs. And besides, this building is being built for a long time, since it cannot be dismantled, that is, moved to another place on the territory.

Porch with canopy

The canopy over the porch, created with your own hands, has much smaller dimensions than a car, is attached to the wall above the entrance to a residential building or outbuildings.

It is for this reason that lower technical requirements are imposed on it, but more aesthetic appearance.

Practically in any region of the Russian Federation, taking into account the climate, a radius arch without a tightening bowstring with two struts is used. Note that if the visor is carried out by more than one and a half meters, it is worth propping it up with columns.

Attached canopies supported by pillars are actively distributed on a high porch with the presence of railings, since they will spoil the aesthetic appearance of low structures and will be superfluous.

To achieve good acceptance of loads, it is reasonable to make a deep canopy without struts. Fortunately, cellular polycarbonate allows you to make this decision. But, the removal of the struts should not be less than a third of the removal of the visor itself.

Country version

A lean—to canopy for a cottage is the most popular, quite simple version of the coating. The area over which the polycarbonate visor is erected can be absolutely any size, the main task is the competent execution of a durable wooden or metal frame.

It is quite simple to make such a canopy with a wooden base and a polycarbonate roof, adjacent to the wall of a residential building. It seems to play the role of a cozy modern terrace.

The slope of the roof should not be too large, it already helps the precipitation of the atmosphere to descend independently, without leaving stagnant puddles on the surface.

Before starting work, it is necessary to treat all wooden surfaces with a special paint or primer to avoid rotting and wood disease. Then you need to start marking the territory in order to mark the location of the supporting elements.

At the obtained points, pits are dug to a depth of no more than 50 centimeters. Further, ready-made forms of supports are introduced into the soil, but you can go another way of fixing, that is, to bring crushed stone, pillars into the pits, tamp them down and concreting them firmly.

Prior to strengthening, it is necessary to check the degree of verticality using the construction level. Then horizontal bars and roof lathing are attached at the top.

Polycarbonate sheets are mounted with self-tapping screws, which are equipped with rubber washers, which helps to avoid cracking of the material.

To complete the project of the frame for the canopy, it is necessary:

  • create a diagram with a roof view;
  • make drawings where the dimensions of the building will be included;
  • take into account the size of the panels and the distance between the rafters;
  • find the snow and wind load in your region in a special table.

The parterre is the final element of landscape design. But, at the same time, it is something that predicts what you will see inside. Such types of flowerbeds are most often of regular shape and are located in front of massive and representative buildings. This allows you to emphasize their importance, as well as all the grace and pomp. So, any guest, having entered your house, having seen such a wonderful parterre, will look forward to continuing and will gladly go to see your beautiful garden.
