Garden sprayer — overview of popular spray options and their features (90 photos)

Gardeners devote a lot of time and effort to combating pests and pathogens of fruit trees and shrubs. The most modern and effective chemicals are used. But the method of spraying is also important. You can do this manually, but such a solution will be labor-intensive and not always effective. It is better to use special devices.

But before making a purchase decision, it is advisable to find out how to choose a good sprayer for the garden and what to follow in this case.

This garden tool provides the application of preventive chemically active agents in a thin layer on a variety of plants. This ensures effective insect control. Additionally, it is possible to produce high-quality fertilizing of trees and shrubs.

Spraying is carried out due to the creation of increased pressure inside the apparatus, followed by the spraying of liquid by a microdispersion method. The substance penetrates into the most difficult places to access, it is firmly held on the surface of the leaves.

If you do not need to take preventive measures in the garden, then it is advisable to use this device for whitewashing or painting walls and fences, washing the car.

Structurally, the sprayer is a 2-11 l tank in the form of a conical or cylindrical vessel. It is equipped with nozzles and supports for fixing on a flat surface. A pump is placed inside. A hose is attached to the vessel together with a rod. It can be standard or sliding for better accessibility of the processing area.

A variety of extension cords are used to adjust the length, and with the help of a nozzle and replaceable nozzles, the parameters of the jet are set.

At the beginning of the rod, which is used for spraying, protective filters of cylindrical and flat type are installed. They create a barrier to the passage of large particles that can disrupt the operation of the entire device. Thanks to the valve, excess accumulated air is released, protecting the container from pressure growth.

The main types of sprayers

Experienced and novice gardeners are not always able to correctly navigate the entire variety of models and brands. Looking at a photo of a garden sprayer, we can easily make sure of this. But we will present the basic varieties in our article.

Lever-type hand tools

This is the simplest option, the main advantage of which is the low cost. The liquid moves due to manual pumping – the handle moves up and down by the action of the gardener, the necessary pressure is created inside the tank, the substance is sprayed.

Structurally, manual sprayers include a 0.5-2 liter plastic tank with a lid and a pump-type pump.

Due to its ease of use, reliability and durability, this design is popular with summer residents. In addition, there are also such advantages of the model:

  • a small volume of the tank, which provides greater maneuverability;
  • it is possible to choose the right capacity for specific tasks;
  • the built-in filter minimizes the number of cases of nozzle contamination;
  • the possibility of venting excess air;
  • availability of a liquid volume control scale;
  • a simple mechanism for regulating jet parameters.

But compactness can also be a disadvantage. After all, the device is inconvenient to use when spraying large areas. Therefore, this option is effective when working in a greenhouse, during the processing of seedlings, flower beds and free-standing fruit trees.

Pump models

In such devices, the volume of the tank is much higher – 3-12 liters, and the length of the hose is increased to 1.5 m. The kit also includes a handle and a rod equipped with a nozzle.

The principle of operation is the same, but due to a more advanced mechanism, the injected pressure reaches 4 atmospheres. Therefore, it should be used with caution. The advantages include:

  • the presence of a special mechanism for regulating the duration of spraying and the strength of the flow;
  • the locking button allows you to set the mode of long-term spraying;
  • activation of a special pump for pumping.

Due to the presence of belts, it is possible to process a plot of up to 30 acres. The model will also be effective in gardens with densely planted vegetation.

Knapsack devices

A knapsack sprayer with a pump involves pumping high pressure in the pumping unit, and not in the tank itself, as in the previous model. There are types that are equipped with a lever mechanism. The volume varies between 12-20 liters. Due to the larger capacity, it is possible to process a plot of up to 50 acres.

The advantages are as follows:

  • comfortable fastening on the back with belts and belts made of high-quality material;
  • effective placement of the handle to create pressure;
  • the possibility of adjusting the lever to the physical dimensions of the gardener;
  • an explosion in the chamber will not cause the solution to spray.

However, the price of such a device is excessively high. It is impractical to buy it for work in the average cottage.

Battery-powered devices

If you do not want to apply mechanical force to pressurize, then you can simplify your work and choose an electric sprayer. An electric drive powered by a battery is used here. Structurally, the model includes a tank with a hose, spray tubes and three nozzles.

Thanks to a sufficiently capacious battery, it is possible to work for a long time. Charging is carried out from the mains. When choosing, you need to take into account the parameters of the battery — its capacity, time to recharge, the presence of an indicator to monitor the charge level.

The battery sprayer can be used for mobile processing of a large area, spraying of high vegetation. It has the following advantages:

  • no noise;
  • selection of the tank of the required capacity;
  • operator mobility.

However, if the quality of the battery is low and it discharges quickly, then you need to have a spare battery. Because it will not be possible to recharge it quickly.

Motorized type of equipment

Gasoline two-stroke engines help to fully automate the spraying process without physical effort on the part of a person. It runs on a mixture of oil and gasoline. Due to the pump, it is possible to reach the tops of the tallest trees, the range of the jet can reach 15 m. The tank capacity is 14-23 liters.

The control is carried out using the power button and lever, which are located on the handle. There is a choice of moving the tank – on belts or on wheels.

Advantages of the model:

  • adjustment of the spraying range;
  • large filling capacity of the tank;
  • the possibility of using powder-based formulations;
  • automated spraying;
  • long range.

This is a fairly noisy device that requires regular refueling. And, of course, the cost is quite high.

Selection rules

Modern sprayers are distinguished by a variety of models and brands. You need to select the right device based on the planned work and their volume. It is important to take into account such factors:

  • Tank capacity. To process a young tree, 2 liters of solution will be required, and for a shrub – 1 liter. An adult tree will require a solution of 10 liters. When spraying vegetable beds, on average it takes 1-2 liters of chemicals per 10 m2.
  • Length and design of the rod. The telescopic model is quite convenient to work with. Some brands have a shorter rod, but the slug will be elongated.
  • The rod must be metal. The quality of the housing and nozzle material is also important.
  • Reliability and quality of manufacturing of fastening parts and fasteners.
  • Availability of additional attachments;
  • Inclusion in the set of spare parts.
  • Manufacturer and trademark. Such brands as Gardena, Grinda, Solo, GDM, Hozelock, Beetle are popular.
  • The cost of the product.

When buying garden equipment, you need to take into account your financial capabilities. However, the convenience of working with the planned amount of work will be of paramount importance.
