Garden bench — use in landscape design and instructions for building with your own hands (100 photos)
How nice it is to sit on a bench on a summer night and look at the sky. In every courtyard of a residential building, you can see a garden bench, or even more than one! This is an important element of decor and comfort, which you can make yourself, besides, only "golden" hands, tools, imagination and determination are required.
Many of us rested in suburban areas, including a table and benches, the canopy for which is a vineyard. Inspiration to create a bench or bench can come from viewing photos of garden benches.
Sometimes you are amazed at what creative personalities are capable of coming up with. They are the ones who give a boost to everyone else. It would seem that the idea is not the best, but in the end it turns out a new masterpiece that is admired.
Benches with backs are most common, however, there are a huge number of variations in materials and appearance. The tree can be in the form of beams, logs, branches, boards. The Internet is full of life hacks for making benches from wooden pallets, creating a new fashion and style.
It is much easier to construct a shop. Most often they make a set: a table and two benches to it, located parallel to each other. It is necessary to make a drawing of the future product in order not to make a mistake with the dimensions and configuration.
To make a bench or bench with your own hands you will need:
- boards cut to the right size;
- hacksaw/saw;
- drill;
- self-tapping screws;
- staples;
- roulette;
- plane;
- grinding machine;
- and, finally, varnish and paint.
Benches made of logs look more massive and will perfectly complement the site, giving the impression of antiquity and reliability. Logs are used instead of boards, resin will be needed to protect the support posts from dampness and insects, the use of an axe is not excluded, and the rest of the tools are listed above.
In fact, a bench made of logs is made easier than anything else, because there is no need for drawings and measurements, but only to dig recesses for posts made of logs and fix any piece of polished wood on them, whether it is part of a log or a neat board.
The main thing is that the logs protrude above the ground at the same height, excluding the slope in one of the sides. Such a bench or bench will create an image of identity and exclusivity.
The curved branches wrapping around the back of the bench will add a zest to the product. And the back, made entirely of branches, will become an interesting element. Symmetry is not the main thing here, and the distance between the braided branches is chosen to your taste. Thus, an unusual bench turns out, which will tell a lot about the owner without words.
Skilled woodcarvers can make an ordinary wooden bench or bench a work of art, additionally carving something beautiful and unusual. For example, an ordinary shop can be turned into some kind of animal by cutting out the head and tail.
Benches with a metal component
A wooden bench with elements of metal construction looks more impressive and delicate, thanks to smooth curves and "curls". It is difficult to make anything out of iron on your own, especially a metal bench without special tools. Yes, and it rather serves as a more decorative element, and not as a convenient place to relax.
If you have firmly decided that the bench should have metal elements, then do not despair. Possession of the technique of hot forging is optional, you can use cold forging, in which our metal workpieces are welded into a single structure.
Such a bench will look more noble than an ordinary wooden one. So if you have tools with which you can bend iron, then go for it. And you will need an angle grinder, a welding machine, a pipe bending device, a metal primer (preferably anti-corrosion), and the rest is already known.
A good option would be to install a swing bench with a canopy. Children will be happy, and adults can comfortably sit down and read a book, gently swaying.
Metal is unpretentious in care and more durable than wood.
Benches made of plastic
The main advantage of plastic is its lightness. Products can be moved from place to place without fear of tearing your back. It's not a bad idea to have a couple of chairs or a plastic bench in the country arsenal.
Benches made of plastic can be prefabricated. The folding bench fits in the trunk and does not take up much space, which is useful for sudden trips to nature.
From the remnants of plastic pipes for the water supply system, beautiful chairs are obtained, the frame of which is connected with the help of couplings, clamps, tees, bends and other shaped products.
The seat for such chairs is a durable cover worn on the frame. To make the structure heavier, ordinary sand is used, which is poured into the pipe cavities.
Benches and benches made of stone
If you decide to make a bench out of stone, then you will have to think carefully about where to place it. Unlike plastic, a stone structure is unlikely to be moved from its place. Sitting on such a bench is not very comfortable, so it is recommended to lay something soft.
The stone will last longer than other materials, and its cost is much lower. A lonely bench or bench made of stone will not look on the site, the presence of other decorative elements made of stone is required to create a certain style.
Will fit harmoniously shop that stands right next to the stone wall of the house. To create a more delicate way to use flowers in pots or flower beds.
Interesting ideas
Benches and benches are made of everything! It would seem that there is a pile of garbage that for some reason has not yet been removed from the site, and this pile suddenly becomes something interesting and beautiful. The most daring ideas that we managed to see:
- a bench made of old chairs arranged in one row and secured with a screed;
- a bench made of an old iron bed with a headboard and footboard, between which a seat is attached;
- a bench made of an old barrel of large volume (an opening is cut out, a seat is fixed in it);
- a bench made of an old cast-iron bathtub (for the most daring and daring).
A circular bench around a large tree looks poetic and romantic, as if you are plunging into someone's historical novel.
Mixing materials will not make the construction ridiculous, on the contrary, stone and wood, wood and metal add mystery and strangeness to the site.
Experiment with shapes and sizes, look for drawings of benches and rebuild them in your own way. Flowers and shrubs will give a more refined look, and knitted pillows and blankets will create an atmosphere of warmth.
Basic requirements for benches
The first and main requirement is the reliability of the design. Shakiness is unacceptable, because it means that something has been done incorrectly or the bench has lost its original stability. If you feel that the bench is slightly shaky, it is better to make repairs as soon as possible.
The second and significant requirement is convenience. Note that many prefer to sit on a bench rather than on a bench, because there is an opportunity to lean back. Decorative pillows and blankets will allow you to add another point to comfort.
The third and important requirement is resistance to changes in the environment. Rain, sun, snow, wind – all this should be nothing.
Be inspired by photos, draw your ideal bench in your head, ask your family what they would like, and bring all your wishes to life!
