Blind area around the house: step-by-step instructions on how to properly place in modern construction (110 photos)

The whole structure of the house is important, it includes many details that create integrity and fulfill their role. Now we will talk about the final stage of the construction of personal housing. The main role in it is given to the correct laying of the protective coating.

If it is done qualitatively, then the foundation together with the soil will receive sufficient protection, and this will allow you to use the living space for a long time. The blind area forms the comfort of using housing due to the formation of protection from moisture, which without it could leak to the foundation and harm its stability.

Because of this, it is very important to know how to make a blind area around the house correctly so that it will serve for many years. Its role is considered paramount, since moisture can significantly erode the foundation, and lead to the destruction of any structure.

The value of such finishing increases in the case of the use of a shallow foundation for the building. Water is able to cause more damage to it, getting to the sole faster, but with the help of a high—quality blind - it becomes impossible, and the house remains strong always.

If the sole gets wet for some reason, the structure will begin to sag noticeably. In the case of deep immersion of the sole of the foundation, it will also need a barrier for water penetration. It should be installed in any case, regardless of the reliability of the base, the type of soil and other accompanying conditions.

Get acquainted with reliable views through photo blind spots around the house, made by professionals for various projects. They show a variety of approaches to the laying process, suitable for the ideas of architects, designers, taking into account the chosen style of the house.

There is no clear framework for the arrangement of the rockery — a picturesque mess is also possible, close to the natural mountain alpine landscape, flat stony gravel paths made of colored crushed stone or pebbles, intricately laid, are also appropriate.
Any stones you find in your area will be suitable for rockery — from large boulders, to medium-sized and, finally, fine-grained filling.

Granite, limestone, wild stone will do, weathered stone looks very picturesque.
You can entrust the creation of a rock garden on your site to a landscape designer, or you can create it with your own hands based on your tastes and preferences.

Why add it to your project at home?

It is important to remember that the correct blind area will help protect the structure from serious problems during operation by the owners. The first thing you need to do is to select the right material for your purposes of laying it. In order for its properties to be as useful as possible, you need to choose the correct width of the tiles forming its area.

Experts do not recommend limiting the space for it. If it turns out more, then it's better than less space for its placement. Water will evaporate from its surface or will be able to soak into the ground at a remote distance from the foundation without harming it.

Important: It is recommended to cover the building with a blind area at least 80 cm from any edge. Otherwise, it may be a useless exercise. And do not forget about the decorative possibilities of such a coating. It can be made part of the whole design.

It has another purpose, it is used as paths for passing along the house. It has rained and a lot of moisture will accumulate everywhere, and it will help to get to some corners of the cottage in comfortable conditions. This is a very important point because of it, it is recommended to take this part of the project seriously and make a blind area on the basis of a sufficient size.

If it is too narrow, then you will have to move sideways along it, which is not particularly pleasant fun for residents. Experts believe that it should reach a size of 1.2-1.5 meters in width. This will open up all its functionality and ensure sufficient separation of the foundation from water interference.

What is its device?

It is important to take into account the presence of a slope for it to direct water away from the walls, and not under them. The builders calculated that the optimal slope is 50-100 mm for 1 meter width. But moving along it will not be very convenient, because of this you will have to make a choice - reliable protection or increased cross-country ability.

The compromise size is 15-20 mm for 1 meter of its width. So the water will flow away at a slower speed, but any person will easily pass through the coating.

To decide, it is important to understand all the nuances, and to make a suitable blind area around the house for all family members. This will help prevent the need to rebuild this most important product, which forms the proper characteristics of housing outside the city.

And it is also worth adhering to the developed requirements for long-term operation:

  • The width cannot be made smaller than the size of the ledge at the roof, because the water will drain further than it, and this will reduce its useful qualities to zero;
  • It cannot be interrupted and must be carried out around the perimeter of the house;

What will it take to create it?

Turn to the professionals and see how they will do everything in a short period of time. Or make it by your own efforts. In the second case, you will need to choose the right materials. Various variations of its formation are available, but the concrete blind area is recognized as the simplest and highest quality of all popular types. It is not difficult to arrange it for any area.

To begin with, the territory is cleared, on which the necessary surface will fall. Then the reinforcement is used, its bars are laid according to the grid principle. They must have a diameter of at least 6 mm to provide the necessary functionality. They are easy to connect with a sufficiently voluminous knitting wire.

The moment has come to install the formwork in the form of extended wooden boards. Everything can be filled with formwork, a suitable type of concrete.

To perform this process correctly, you will have to use a number of tools and materials:

  • A shovel is needed for digging holes for the main job;
  • The hydraulic level will help to establish the same laying angle throughout the entire area of the house;
  • The wheelbarrow will provide simplified waste removal and delivery of the required amount of crushed stone;
  • Manual ramming will be required to align uneven places;
  • Waterproofing will ensure the reliability of the structure;
  • The insulation guarantees the durability of the blind area;
  • Crushed stone will strengthen it and make it monolithic;
  • Clay will bind all its parts into one;
  • Reinforced mesh based on 10 x 10 cells can replace reinforcement bars.

The main work is based on the use of concrete

It consists of forming two layers of it — for bedding and covering. Now we will explain how to fill the blind area without complications with our own hands, taking into account all the construction principles.

The underlying or initial layer will help to form the flatness of the surface for the covering level, called the finishing stage. For the first level there is sand, crushed stone and clay. And the most important concrete coating will be on top.

It is due to this composition that a powerful barrier against water is provided. It is known that it is able to penetrate very deeply, but in this case it will have to drain and pave another way away from the foundation.

But before this part, it is necessary to remove the soil to a depth of about 20-30 cm around the perimeter around the house. Then we begin to seal the base so that it is ready for other work. If the roots of plants are found, they can be left alone and not removed.

But, in order to prevent their growth, it is desirable to treat all the processes with herbicides. If they grow, then they will definitely damage the blind area.

We form a removable version of the formwork using wooden boards. We form a layer of clay, and then cover it with sand for about 10 cm. The sand must be compacted by tamping. Then it is slightly watered with water. The time comes for the rubble, it is placed 6-8 cm in the dug-out base.

Reinforced mesh or reinforcement bars are used to strengthen the structure. Now a compensating seam option is being created between the base and the main part of the blind area. A mixture of sand and gravel, roofing material, sealant, a foamed version of the harness is good for this.

The time is right for pouring the main material. Now the concrete blind area is not ready yet, but it is already taking on a completed form. Before pouring the main solution, it is necessary to lay wooden slats after every 2 or 3 meters. Before installation, they are treated with an anti-rot coating.

It is important to monitor the correct slope of their placement. They will help you create the right shape. Then it comes to concrete. It is necessary to use a high-quality type like M 250 or M 300, suitable for various road works.

To make the coating stronger, it is allowed to use the method of hardening using a dry or wet approach. It consists in adding another fine layer of 2-3 mm on top of the drying concrete.

The first consists of dry concrete, which must be gently pressed into the main layer by tapping.

The wet version includes a solution of ceresite, liquid glass, sifted cement and water. Within 7-10 days, the resulting mass will harden. Now the product can be used.

We see that the whole process is quite simple, but it takes a lot of time. And it is also important to think about a sufficient amount of funds for its full implementation. The final cost of filling the blind area may be impressive, but it will depend on its size and quality.

Naturally, it can be reduced, and a simplified installation option can be used, which will help save money, but will affect quality and durability.
