Bench with your own hands (85 photos): application in landscape design and construction with your own hands
Can a garden do without a comfortable recreation area, where the owners sit on a bright bench in the shade of trees and enjoy floral aromas? No, that's why the question "how to make a bench with your own hands?" is becoming relevant in our time.
It turns out that it is not difficult to make such a place, and not only polished logs or boards, but also improvised materials can serve as a basis for it.
The simplest bench drawings to make are a long seat on two or three legs. Moreover, two churochki and several polished boards of the desired width are usually chosen at the base. The algorithm is simple: install the supports at the required distance and fix the seat on them.
To complement the design with a backrest, holders are fixed to the seat from two opposite sides, to which light smooth boards are nailed. After installation, the product is painted and varnished.
By the way, a wooden base is a classic, while having many variations: folded boards in the shape of the letter "X", "N", "P" or an inverted "T", standard rectangular legs, thick bars or sawn-offs.
Original versions
But not everyone will place a standard and banal bench in their garden, for fear of disturbing the harmony and aesthetics of the floral atmosphere.
As a rule, most master gardeners do not forget to include imagination, simultaneously paying attention to the amount of available materials and unused items and objects in the household.
Below are some original ideas with which your recreation area will not only be comfortable and practical, but also beautiful and unusual.
Idea No. 1 – stone foundation
The most budget shop is made of cheap materials. And what could be cheaper than stones lying everywhere? Two options are most relevant here: masonry and gabion.
The masonry allows you to experiment with the configuration, bends, armrests and back of the bench. To do this, you can take both uneven blocks and sawn stone. The cobblestones are folded in an arbitrary order and fastened with concrete mortar.
On such a hard and sometimes cold basis, it is better to use soft pillows that will add not only comfort, but also style and colors.
No less interesting is the gobion – a rectangular grid filled with stone, rubble or pebbles. A wooden seat is subsequently superimposed on top of such a support.
Idea #2 – Bench-flowerbed
A "natural" bench rising among the flowerbeds will fit perfectly into the garden setting. For such a composition, you will need supports in the form of concrete flower beds or wooden boxes filled with earth, and boards. For example, concrete bases can be placed in two tiers: rectangular down and short cubic ones on top of them, and wooden ones can simply be installed on both sides of the bench.
The bench seat is made of wood, more precisely from a piece of boards of the required length and width. If there is a wide surface, then we use it by putting it on top of the supports.
In order to make a full-fledged place out of stacks, they are stacked through 0.5 cm and connected with transverse slats at the edges and in the middle.
Idea #3 – Elongated chairs
Photos of benches made of elongated chairs will definitely interest those who like to make with their own hands. The original product in the form of a sofa with elegant fences can be made by following the algorithm:
- Find four old unclaimed chairs with a back;
- Remove the front parts from two products;
- For the rest, it is necessary to saw off the front legs, leaving the seat itself untouched;
- We perform the necessary actions with the material: coating removal, grinding, polishing;
- From the end of the chairs without legs and from the edges of the removed parts, we drill holes into which we insert glue-lubricated dowels;
- We assemble the bench by inserting parts from the first chairs into the main elements, continuing the overall design;
- Fixing the assembly with screws;
- A board or bonded segments equal in length and width are placed on top, glued with carpentry glue;
- We ground, paint, process with stain and varnish.
It is also possible to simplify the process by using only two chairs, whose front legs are removed, and the remaining parts are securely fastened to each other.
Idea #4 – A rough log
It is not always required from a garden bench to be refined and elegant, because often it is the rough and uncouth objects that fit into the natural environment most conveniently.
For example, the following option provides for a product made of a thick meter-long log. It is sawn along into two unequal parts: the seat and the back.
Triangular recesses are cut out on both sides of each element, into which holders are later inserted. To install the bench on the legs, holes are made in the lower part for supports in the form of logs.
Of course, if you have experience working with a tree, then you can build the whole bench in a whole trunk.
Tree branches are often used as the main material. So, a large number of rods are fixed into a single rounded or rectangular shape, after which they give it stability and decorate a beautiful seat made of timber or boards, a creative body, armrests and back.
Idea #5 – Curved pipes
Often in the yard there are unclaimed and profiled rounded pipes. They can also be used as a base for a garden bench.
The procedure looks like this:
- Bend two pipes of the same length into the shape of the letter "P", while the legs should be within 15-20 cm, and the back as long as possible.
- We paint metal in any color.
- We prepare identical plates about 40 cm long.
- We fix them on the pipes using bolts for furniture with a flat cap, having previously drilled holes for them.
- The pipe bench is ready.
In addition to such a bench, a table is also made according to a similar algorithm. However, the proportions are increasing: the height of the legs is set at a level of at least 70 cm, and the width of the plates is on average about 60-100 cm.
The completeness of any garden is given by the arrangement of a special recreation area. Of course, a spacious gazebo will be the best solution, but it is much more economical and easier to build a couple of benches. Moreover, the presence of original ideas allows you to make them not only as unusual as possible, but also convenient and comfortable.
